Cold & Flu Season Herbal Tea Blend

from ÂŁ3.58

This blend is balanced, it’s not too spicy so the young children in my household can drink it. If you need a kick you add more ginger or even a pinch of cayenne pepper! (Or brandy 👀 for medical purposes of course...)

•Organic Elderflower (Sambucus Nigra)

•Echinacea (E. Purpurea)

•Pine Needles (Pinus Strobus)

•Lemon Peel (Citrus Limon)

•Ginger Root (Zingiber Officinale)

•Organic Cranberries (Vaccinium subg. Oxycoccus)

Elderflower interacts with the body differently to to elderberry. I like using the flowers because they have antispetic, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties without the worry of traces of arsenic unlike the berries which is why berries need to be boiled for a while before use. My ancestors used Pine Needles for numerous aliments including respiratory viruses. Dr. Patrick Jones (a practicing veterinarian, Clinical Herbalist and traditional naturopath) who’s lectures I enjoy, explained that pine needles contain shikimic acid, pc6, pc7 and resveratrol; natural compounds that inhibit a virus’ (he was specific about C-19, rhinovirus’ and influenza) ability to attach to cell membranes which they need to do in order to make you sick and reproduce. Also a great source of vitamin C. Echinacea supports the lymphatic system helping to move and expel anything from your body that the pine and elderflower identify shouldn’t be there. Ginger gets things moving by increasing circulation and moving nutrients/antioxidants etc to the parts of your body that need them, but that’s not all it does have another super-power, it prevents stress and damage to our DNA while easing pain and nausea. Boiled Lemon Peel has many benefits including calcium, vitamin C, eradicates toxins, oral hygiene, skin conditions, the list goes on. Cranberries have been used to treat UTIs, improve eyesight and heart health. I included it as it is an antioxidant powerhouse which protects the cells.

It’s not easy to get Cherry Tree Bark in the UK but this blend can be boiled with cherry bark and cinnamon for a speedy recovery from Colds, Flus and flu like viruses. Especially for one who has lost their voice.

How to use:

1-2 Teaspoons in hot water, cover and brew for 5-10mins. Can be kept in fridge and served cold but probably best received as warm/hot as possible to open/warm up the system and get things moving. Sweeten to taste. If using a fillable tea bag (a couple will be provided for free) you can crush/ blend/ grind the blend to release more components when brewed. I have kept the ingredients larger as they store better and are less likely to slip through a strainer/ infuser.

NOT JUST A TEA! Can be ground into power for capsules. Food is medicine so get as much of the whole plant as you can. Can be made into a tincture.
